Entry #1: Why, Oh Why and Who Am I?

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

Before I begin I just want to say a big thank you for taking an interest in my journey. I wanted to create this blog of my journey to record my progress. Furthermore, I hope this can be used as a resource for anyone else, especially single male Intended parents (IP's), to navigate their way through the surrogacy process.

I appreciate that everyone's journey will be different depending on the routes that are taken. However, many of the steps along the way will be similar for most. I do not profess to be an expert in the field of surrogacy but would like to share with you the many aspects and barriers as and when I face them.

So, who am I?

I was born and raised in Newport, South Wales. I enjoyed school and always wanted to become a teacher. I qualified as a secondary school teacher in 2011 and have been teaching in the South Wales area ever since.

I have a varied assortment of past times. I enjoy discovering new walks with my Tibetan Terrier, Tor, I regularly visit the cinema with my friends and try to catch the latest movies on release. I have been a long-time fan of the music by Imogen Heap and I never miss an episode of Doctor Who. My hobbies include listening to music and live theatre. I also enjoy model making and find this relaxing in my spare time.

A paternal instinct, and the longing to be a father/parent, has been present from a young age and has grown greater over recent years. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to have children. However, as the realisation of my sexuality became clear, the inability to have children became frighteningly apparent. It was not until sometime after I came out, and the increased prominence and visibility of homosexuality in the media and society, that I realised other options were available.

For many years It has been my dream to have a child of my own and it is my wish to one day have a biological child through surrogacy. I may not know what route my journey will take, and I imagine there to be many highs and lows along the way. What I do know is, I will be a father one day!

Until Next time, Keeping the Dad Dream alive!
